Smithville is proud to be served by a dedicated team of volunteer firefighters who put service, safety, and community first. Under the leadership of Fire Chief Scott Morgan, the Smithville Volunteer Fire Department responds to emergencies with professionalism, courage, and care.
Cheif Morgan brings years of experience and a deep commitment to protecting lives and property. He leads a team of trained volunteers who stand ready to respond to fires, accidents, and other emergencies, day or night.

Fire Safety Tips for Your Home & Family
Protecting your home starts with prevention. The Smithville Volunteer Fire Department encourages all residents to take simple steps that can make a big difference in keeping families safe from fire hazards.
At Home
- Check smoke alarms monthly and replace batteries at least once a year.
- Keep flammable items away from heat sources like stoves, heaters, and candles.
- Never leave cooking unattended, especially when using oil or high heat.
- Store matches and lighters out of reach of children.
- Have a fire extinguisher in the kitchen and know how to use it.
Electrical Safety
- Avoid overloading outlets or using damaged cords.
- Unplug appliances when not in use.
- Hire a licensed electrician for any wiring concerns.
Outdoor & Seasonal Safety
- Keep grills and fire pits at least 1o feet from structures.
- Dispose of ashes safely in a metal container.
- During dry seasons, follow local burn bans and fire advisories.
Be Prepared
- Create and practice a home fire escape plan with your family.
- Make sure everyone knows two ways out of each room.
- Designate a safe meeting spot outside your home.
